2022…How is Your Year Going?

This week we begin the last week of January. We are almost through the first month of the year. How has the year been for you so far this year? If you made resolutions, how are you doing with them?

The beginning of the year has been busy for me personally and professionally. I had my own resolutions that I have done my best to keep and somedays are better than others. But I know that small steps yield big results and that it’s in the small steps that our life shifts in ways we want it to. The more we incorporate small manageable steps into our daily lives, the more our lives will reflect who we are, what we want, and who we want to become.

The good news is that we can choose to make a tiny change in our life in a moment. You don’t have to wait for the new year, until next week, next month, when you have more money, when you have a new job, etc…you can do it now. Right here, in this moment. Just choose to do something different. And then do it.

If what you chose to do differently-works out great! Keep doing it!!! If it doesn’t that’s okay as well.

You’re probably thinking, “What do you mean it’s okay if it didn’t happen or go the way I had wanted it to? The reason I wanted to do something differently is to have results, that I like.”

But the secret is that when we try something new and it doesn’t work, this is where the magic happens. This is the time we learn about ourselves and what is holding us back-in real time. When something doesn’t work out as we had planned despite the feelings we may have about it-we can ask ourselves, why not? What happened in the moment that kept us from doing it or being successful when we did try?

One of the biggest tools I recommend to my clients is writing in a journal. Something as simple as taking a few minutes each day or when things happen in our lives to write down what happened, how we feel about it, why, and what we learned from it-can help us see how tiny small shifts in our lives, yield a big difference. One small step I have incorporated into my life this year is to eat for enjoyment but also understand how the foods I put in my body truly give me the fuel I need to get through the day or leave me feeling tired and in need of coffee at 3pm. Through trial and error, I have found that foods with gluten zap my energy and leave me feeling bloated for a couple of days. This article is a great explanation of why. https://medium.com/feed-your-brain/from-brain-fog-to-psychosis-the-powerful-effects-of-this-everyday-food-76649f6f001a

As we move through the cold and darker winter months, the OMICRON surge, and what I call the holiday hangover – I have noticed that my students and clients have days when they’re just in a funk. This is completely normal as we can’t be happy 100% of the time. But that still doesn’t make it fun to go through. This article gives some fantastic ideas for how to get yourself out of a funk and enjoy your day, despite what may be happening around you. https://elemental.medium.com/12-unexpected-pick-me-up-practices-for-when-youre-feeling-down-e46d5c930131

This past week I came across an interesting concept – what drives the decisions we make. Do we make our decisions based on how much money it will cost us to do something? Or do we make our decisions based on how much time it will cost to do something? The authors of the article show how that most of us make decisions based on money. Yet, those who make decisions based on how much time (rather than money) things will take are happier, wealthier, and more satisfied. It’s an interesting idea that definitely has kept me thinking about the decisions I’m making and the driving force behind them. https://hbr.org/2019/01/time-for-happiness

Finally, an Instagram influencer who has shown me how to reheat salmon and rice to perfection and continues to inspire me to cook simple meals while also organizing my home. My refrigerator has never looked so clean and organized . https://www.instagram.com/p/CXm4TllF2Jf/

Cheers to a great week and creating your best life-every day!!!
