Welcome 2022! What a wonderful year it’s going to be!

I’m so excited about the year ahead because the beginning of each year is the opportunity to make changes in our lives. There’s an excitement and motivation to really create lives that we love and we make a plan to move forward with creating positive change in our lives through our resolutions. Yet, regardless of our commitment to creating lives we love and our resolve to follow through with our resolutions, within a couple of months our motivation dissipates and our resolutions are often left, in the dust.

But not this year my friends! This is the year that we are going to stick to our resolutions and follow through with them. Because this year, we are going to pull back the curtain and look at the psychology and science behind motivation, change, and manifesting our best life.

In this new newsletter, I’m going to share information that will help you stay motivated, moving forward in meeting your goals, creating possibilities for you to think about things in new ways, and create more happiness in your life. I hope that you will take golden nuggets that you can apply in your day to day life. Small nuggets that create big change in your life, one step at a time. In simple, effective, and lasting ways.

As an Executive Coach and Professor learning is one of the key areas that have made me successful in my career and life. I love to read and each week read several articles (I try to devote at least 1-2 hours a day to reading) that will help me in my life and my clients in overcoming their obstacles, creating their dream lives. In fact, most successful people devote time to reading each week to continue to grow and challenge themselves. Vision Boards-Manifesting Your Best Life

For years I had heard about the power of vision boards in creating a life that I loved and knew I wanted for myself. Part of the power in vision boards is that in creating them you identify the areas of your life that are most important for you and where you want to grow in those areas. Several years ago, during a really difficult part of my life-I decided to give them a try and created my vision board. Within three months of creating the vision board I had bought the house of my dreams (for which I had been searching for over 10 years!), was engaged to the love of my life, and had an unexpected trip to Hawaii with him. The proof is in the pudding and the fact that I had manifested these big events in my life from simply creating a vision board made me a true believer. Since then, having a vision board that I create at the beginning of the year and then add to as my visions come true has been a must have for me. Returning to Work From Vacation (Winter Break)

During the winter break, the University where I teach has 2 weeks of winter break. As I write this, I’m on the tail end of the winter break and I’m starting to prepare for winter quarter. It’s definitely a mindset shift getting ready to jump into winter quarter and I know I want to keep my vacation glow, even in the coldest, darkest, and busiest months of the year. While I have met with my coaching clients during the break, meeting with clients is a different kind of preparation than teaching whole classes, attending faculty meetings, and grading papers. This year as I prepare to return to a very full workload at the University and continue working with clients as an Executive Life Coach I am taking the advice from this article: The Right Way to Come Back from Vacation and choosing my focus for the upcoming year. From that focus, I will choose five major things I want to do at work and use those as a filter of where I want to spend my time and the things I say “yes” to.

What I’m Reading Now

As a mom I have realized that my go to answer is “no”. My kids have also realized this so when they ask for something, they are already prepared for the “no” and then know how to expertly come back, negotiate and rationalize to get what they want. I’m not quite sure how “no” has become my go to answer with my kids-but I’ve definitely noticed how they use my “no” to reframe and renegotiate expertly to get their way-most of the time. In a conversation with other coaches many recommended the book Never Split The Difference: Negotiating As If Your Life Depended on It by Chris Voss. Voss is a former FBI negotiator and in this book he shares  interesting stories of his days as a FBI negotiator while dispensing very valuable and applicable communication and negotiating advice. One of his key pieces of advice-No is not the end of the negotiation, but the beginning. Something all teens seem to already know.

Who I’m Following on IG

I have enjoyed cooking since I was a little kid and often spend my free time during the weekends reading cookbooks, trying out new recipes and geeking out over cooking shows. A few months ago, I came across The Korean Vegan on IG. Her recipes are creative, beautiful and made with the home cook in mind. Not only is her food amazing, but the life lessons she dispenses in each of her posts are truly inspiring.
